Maybe you’re new to Stamford and don’t know many people yet. Maybe work, family and everyday life have got in the way of seeing your mates. Maybe you’re stuck in a bit of a rut and fancy doing something different. Or maybe you just think it’s time you got out of the house, had a few drinks and met some other local men.
That’s where Stamford Round Table comes in.
We’re a group of men aged 18–45 who get together, have a laugh, try different things and enjoy being part of the local community.
We’re not just about volunteering. We’re not a committee that spends every week sitting around talking about charity. We’re mostly a group of blokes who enjoy doing things together. Sometimes that’s bowling. Sometimes it’s watching Stamford Rugby Club. Sometimes it’s heading down to Peterborough for the ice hockey. Sometimes it’s a curry, a quiz, a Christmas jumper night or a few drinks in the pub.
And yes, sometimes we just need an excuse to go to the pub.
There’s no typical Stamford Round Table night.
Over the years we’ve done everything from driving range golf and bowling to pub quizzes, Taskmaster-style nights, rugby matches and ice hockey. We have our annual Charter Night, celebrating the founding of Stamford Round Table, as well as plenty of other social events throughout the year. Around Christmas, things tend to get a little more festive, with Christmas jumper nights, curry nights and the occasional pub crawl.
The important thing is that we do things that people actually want to do.
You don’t have to be interested in every event. You don’t have to come to everything. There’s no expectation that you have to give up every weekend. It’s about having a group of people you can go and do something with.
It might actually be your partner, wife, girlfriend, mum or dad reading this.
Maybe you’ve got a man in your life who could do with getting out a bit more. Someone who’s new to the area. Someone who’s lost touch with old friends. Someone who spends all week working and could do with something to look forward to. Someone who probably wouldn’t search for something like this themselves.
Send him this page.
Tell him to get in touch. He doesn’t need to know anyone already. He doesn’t need to be an experienced volunteer. He doesn’t need to commit to coming to everything. He just needs to be a man aged 18–45 in the Stamford area who fancies meeting some other local blokes and doing something a bit different.
We’ll take it from there.
Although socialising and fellowship are a big part of Stamford Round Table, we’re also proud to support our local community. Each Christmas, we help provide around 150 Christmas hampers through a local elderly charity. We also support local organisations and community projects, and we’re behind the annual Stamford Car Show, which brings thousands of people into Stamford while raising money for good causes. So while we’re primarily a group of mates who enjoy getting together, we also get the opportunity to make a positive difference to the place we live.
Stamford and District Round Table was established in 1958. More than six decades later, the idea is still pretty simple: bring local men together, build friendships, try new things and enjoy ourselves. The people and activities change over the years, but the basic idea remains the same.
Stamford Round Table is for men aged 18–45 in Stamford and the surrounding area. You don’t need to have any previous experience with Round Table, fundraising or volunteering. You don’t need to be particularly outgoing either. You might come along and know absolutely nobody.
That’s fine.
A lot of friendships start with simply turning up.
We don’t have one permanent meeting venue. We meet at different places around Stamford depending on what we’re doing. That might be a pub, a local sporting venue, somewhere for an activity or somewhere we’re heading for an event. The important bit isn’t where we meet. It’s who you’re meeting.
Stamford Round Table is a local group for men aged 18–45. We get together for social events, activities, nights out and fellowship, while also supporting local organisations, community projects and good causes.
No.
Community work and fundraising are part of what we do, but Stamford Round Table isn’t a traditional volunteering group. The main thing is getting together, meeting people and having a good time. There are opportunities to get involved in community projects if you want to.
Definitely not. People have jobs, families and other commitments. Come along when you can and get involved in the things that interest you.
Absolutely.
In fact, meeting people and making new friends is one of the reasons people join Round Table. You don’t need to have lived in Stamford for years or already know members.
You don’t need to be the loudest person in the room. Just come along, meet some people and see how you get on.
That’s completely normal. You won’t be the first new person to walk into a Round Table event without knowing anyone. Get in touch beforehand and we’ll make sure someone knows you’re coming.
No.
There are certainly evenings involving the pub and a few drinks, but we also do bowling, golf, rugby, ice hockey, quizzes and plenty of other activities. The point is getting together and doing things, not drinking.
No.
If you’re interested, get in touch and come and meet us. There’s no need to decide whether Round Table is for you before you’ve met anyone.
That’s fine.
You don’t need to know anything about the organisation, its history or its traditions before joining.
We’ll explain everything as you go.
The easiest thing is to get in touch.
Tell us a little about yourself and we’ll let you know what’s coming up and how you can come along and meet everyone.
You don’t need to make a big commitment.
You don’t need to know anyone. And you don’t need to decide whether Round Table is for you before you’ve met us.
Get in touch, come along and see what you think.
Stamford Round Table is about getting out, meeting people, doing things and having a good time.
And if we can do a bit of good for Stamford along the way, even better.
